The latest installment of Party Savvy has been published and this month we featured a superhero theme.
As the mom of boys, superheroes have been of interest to my kids since they were just little guys. I don't know what it is, but I think most boys go through a phase at some point. Girls are even getting in on the action now, as I see t-shirts, halloween costumes and toys dedicated specifically to the heroine these days.
My idea for this party was to make it a generic superhero theme. Not specifically Spiderman or Batman or Wonder Woman, but rather a party based on colours, words and symbols. For the food, we made fun things like Captain Coldcut Sandwiches and Villian-Fighting Veggies. These ideas work for any superhero party, and the cake decorations and colours can be swapped to suit the interest of the child (using a banner of course!).
For these simple cake pops, I used Timbits instead of cake. While I love to spend loads of time in the kitchen prepping for parties, I know not everyone else does. Or maybe they don't have the time. But cake pops can still be had with a Timbit on stick, dipping in candy melts and sprinkled with super-sprinkles. To serve them up, I stuck some florists foam into a galvanized steel flower pot and shredded comic book pages to cover the foam. More details and decor ideas can be found here.
