Tomorrow sees the arrival of Thanksgiving in the US and the One of a Kind Craft Show here in Toronto, and both events tell me that the holiday season is officially upon us.
Hot cocoa is finding it's way to our table a little more often these days, cinnamon marshmallows have been made and stocked away, the freezer is slowly filling up with cookies, the firewood is ready and the gingerbread men are being baked this week. There's still lots and lots to do, and I'm sure you feel the same way, which is why I'm hoping I can help you with those holiday preparations. By giving you a new food processor.
That's right, friends. KitchenAid has generously offered to give one Family Bites reader a brand new, shiny slicing and dicing machine. I'm excited for you!

Canadian readers, this contest is specifically geared to you (sorry American friends). In order to qualify you must live within Canada. The food processor will be shipped to you via courier in time for the holidays, and here's how you can enter:
- Leave a comment on this post and tell me what you're most looking forward to this holiday season.
- Like the Family Bites Facebook page, and come back to let me know that you've done so.
- Only one entry per email address and/or household.
- I will draw at name at random on Monday November 28. Winner will be notified by email.
P.S. - I know you'll ask about the snowman in the top picture so here's what I did: Fill small glass jars with white hot chocolate and draw a snowman face on the outside of the glass (I love Weck jars for this) with black and orange Sharpies. Serve on a platter scattered with marshmallows. You can also offer milk, eggnog or any white or cream coloured beverage in these glasses. To remove the colouring from the glass, wipe it off with a paper towel and wash as normal. They are perfect drinks for kids for a holiday or classroom party.
Updated: Congratulations to Courtney Walker-Strople for winning the KitchenAid Food Processor.

I always look forward to our friend's potluck. It's a crazy, crowded, noisy, food fueled time of eating, laughing, singing and reconnecting with people we don't often see. There can be up to 100 people (sometimes more) in their home, sprawled on couches, chairs and whatever floor space we can find. The food is always plentiful, and it's always a fantastic evening. A real highlight to our holiday season.

Now that I have kids, I look forward to sharing all the things that I liked about my childhood Christmases with them, like the advent calendar that my Mom made for us, decorating the tree, opening presents. Another is enjoying tortiere on Christmas Eve.

Just 'liked' you on FB. I am looking forward to spending more time with my kids, making a gingerbread house, not rushing for a few days and cross country skiing (if we get enough snow).
