This morning I woke up with a little spring in my step. It's been an unusually challenging week, and I'm thrilled it's finally Friday, but more than that I feel a little lighter after spending a good amount of time socializing yesterday. Who knew I was in such need?
First, there was a long overdue and lengthy Skype session with a good friend, which was followed by an evening out with a lovely group of women I didn't know to celebrate a mutual friend's birthday. Plenty of conversation with interesting and charming ladies was just what I needed to bring me out of this funk I've been in lately, and last night did not disappoint.
We touched on the important things in life, of course, like Downton Abbey, Le Creuset cookware, writing, eating and living abroad, recipes (Hi Estelle - don't forget to send me that bar recipe!) kids and shoes. And while my mind was being stimulated, my tastebuds were nourished with a sour cherry glazed chicken breast served with a creamy bed of cheddar-infused grits.
Yesterday’s chitchats were further enhanced by a slice of the chocolate heaven cake you see pictured above. I didn’t invent that title; it’s really the name of the recipe and the decadent dessert lives up to its moniker. I promise to share more about it next week when we start talking a lot more about birthday cakes, a little passion of mine that needs to see some more air time here on the blog.

That cake looks heavenly Jan!!!!! Too mouthwatering, considering the fact I have such a weakness for chocolate cakes hehe.
BTW do join my party. I am hosting a gala dinner extravaganza, a fabulous linky party for all. It's going to go on for the entire weekend. You can post anything - appetizers, drinks, soups, stews, desserts, finger foods - anything that takes your fancy. You can also post party decor or other party related ideas.
Please come and join the party and help me make it a success.
