Every July 1st Rob and I host a Canada Day barbecue for our family and friends. As our group has grown, we've moved to a potluck-style event in order to make things a little more manageable.
This year we provided chimichurri chicken, sausages, cornbread, watermelon and feta salad and a make-your-own sundae bar complete with vanilla and chocolate ice creams, fudge sauce, caramel sauce, whipped cream, strawberries, bananas, blueberries, peanuts, chocolate chips and sprinkles. Our loved ones supplemented the meal with an assortment of sides: coleslaw, pasta salad, potato salad, corn-on-the-cob and Asian noodle salad.
The best part about these gatherings - aside from the good food - is seeing all of the cousins enjoy each other's company. From making sundaes to learning to shuck corn and marshmallow roasting to devising new modes of transportation by attaching a sled to a skateboard, they just have so much fun together and it's really wonderful to see.
Happy holiday weekending, friends!
Glad to hear you had a wonderful family get-together. The food, so plentiful and delicious looking. Strapping a sled to a skateboard...smart kids :)

Thanks, Narie. Here is a link to the cornbread recipe. I wrote an article over on SimpleBites a few months back and I featured the recipe there http://www.simplebites.net/what-you-need-to-know-about-cast-iron-skillet-cooking/
