Yesterday I hosted our first outdoor Thanksgiving. I've been wanting to celebrate the day of Thanks outdoors for a few years now, and every October has arrived with uncertain weather forecasts, forcing me to hold the event indoors. It's been tight and crowded in our little house as our family has now grown to eighteen people (soon to be twenty), making it impossible to have proper seating for everyone. Of course, as each Thanksgiving Sunday has arrived, the skies have been blue and warm and I've cursed myself for not holding the event outdoors.
So this year I did it, despite the skeptism of some (ie. Rob). We had one kids table, two adult tables and a buffet of goodies to eat. It went off without a hitch and we came indoors for coffee and assorted desserts. I think being outdoors lent a certain rustic feel to the meal which seemed fitting for Thanksgiving. I loved it and think (or hope) our guests did too.
