I wanted to share this with you before I forgot about it. It's such a simple little recipe, but my kids adore it, and I thought yours might, too. Now that the mornings are much cooler, this has been part of our breakfast table every day for the last week, and yes, in case you're wondering, I do think a bowl of steaming milk infused with dark chocolate is a suitable part of the morning meal.
I blame it on the time I spent in France, where it was common practice for children to drink this beverage every morning. At least the ones I knew. And despite the fact that they were seven and nine, not only did they drink hot chocolate each day, they took it via a baby bottle on Saturday morning while their mother rocked them and sang them a song. I'm not judging, but since my twelve year old is now taller than me, it's safe to say our version will be served in latte bowls. I can sing though, if they really want, but I’m going to assume they’ll be okay without my sleepy crooning.
Chocolate Chaud
- 1 1/2 cups cold milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 1-2 tablespoons sugar (optional)
- 3 oz. dark chocolate, chopped
Combine the milk, water and sugar in a saucepan and heat it just until it comes to a boil. Remove the pot from the stove, add the chocolate and allow it to sit until the chocolate is melted, stirring occasionally.
Using an immersion blender, aerate the milk until it's thick and foamy.
Pour into bowls and serve hot.
If only I could find dark chocolate that's safe for my peanut allergic son. It sounds like you're making wonderful memories.

Yum. I tend to make cocoa more often, but my 4 year old and I often sit, after we drop her sister off at school, and drink our cocoa together. No bottles allowed.

True love is definitely fragile here at begin, but it surely will grow much more with each passing year when it's efficiently feasted.
