Last week was weird, full of tiny little challenges that amounted to hectic days in a house with no air conditioning. The city was in the midst of a heat wave, and my brain, along with the rest of our bodies, was fried. I barely cracked open my laptop, only cooked dinner twice, and bought boxes of ice cream sandwiches to help keep us refreshed.
I'm happy to say the temperature has lowered, the AC is working, and my motivation for work is in high gear. To prove it, take a look at those pickles above. I had them canned and cooled before breakfast was served yesterday, so I think it's safe to say things are getting back on track around here.
Before I share my favourite links of the past weeks I have a few housekeeping notes to pass along:
1) Over on the top right hand side of the screen are links to where you can find me beyond the blog. If you're on Facebook feel free to join me, and if pictures are your more your speed, I'm a pretty active user of Instagram, too. Oh, and a side note about that. If you have a teenager in your house I'm willing to bet they're also a user of the popular photography/social media app. Having an account lets me connect with my friends and readers, but also helps me to keep on top of what's happening in Ben's world. I definitely recommend it.
2) The categories column on the left side of the screen will be gone this week and in its place a proper recipe index. Stay tuned for that.
3) Also coming this week... the chance to sign up for a new monthly newsletter. It will be delivered directly to you inbox and will include things like entertaining tips and tricks, a list of what I’m currently reading, book recommendation for kids/teens, special recipes, updates on the book, and more.
We’re off to the antique market this morning, so while I hopefully add to my collection of vintage enamelware, here are some of the articles that caught my eye recently:
- 101 picnic foods you can make in less than 20 minutes.
- Since you already know Pimm's Cup is one of my favourite summer drinks, you won't be surprised to find these popsicles are now at the top of my must-make list.
- What would be on your list of homesick foods?
- Eleven recipes for peaches.
- A scientific approach to building a better pie.
- This amazing whipped feta is part of my meal plan for the coming week.
