You’d think my days of trying to entertain the older boys at the dinner table were done, now that they’re old enough to talk about politics and current events*, but I recently discovered that’s definitely not the case.
During a humdrum dinner, with not much conversation – my pet peeve – I asked the boys to tell me about their day. They kind of grumbled, the way teenage boys are wont to do, so I suggested that instead of just stating one thing they had done, they should get specific by telling me three facts, but the catch was that only two of them could be true and the other had to be a lie.
Instantly, they perked up in their seats and began plotting their stories. After five minutes or so, we all took turns trying to stump each other with our lie, and dinner quickly took a turn in the direction of fun. During clean-up Jackson asked me if we could do it again the next day. I emphatically agreed; after all, how else would I know he’s able to say the word “cow” 94 times in one breath?
*Just because they’re old enough, doesn’t mean they do. :)
What a feast!
